Obesity: The number one threat to the health of Chinese people

2026-05-12

Obesity has become the number one threat to the health of Chinese people. Data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the number of people with hypertension in my country has exceeded 330 million, meaning one in three adults suffers from hypertension. There are also over 100 million people with hyperglycemia, and the incidence of diseases such as type 2 diabetes is closely related to lipid metabolism disorders. Academician Wang Longde, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, stated, "Stroke (commonly known as cerebrovascular accident) is the leading cause of disability and death among Chinese residents." All of this is closely related to obesity and excessive fat accumulation.

"Don't wait until a stroke occurs to pay attention. Obesity leads to fat accumulation in arteries, directly causing blockages and increasing the risk of stroke," Academician Wang Longde publicly warned. People often say "obesity is more ferocious than a tiger," and it could even be said that wherever there are people, there is a demand and slogan for "weight loss." The world of weight loss is so vibrant, yet there is still no universally accepted "weight loss secret." Faced with the "tiger" of obesity, we still rely too much on self-hypnosis and too little on objective confrontation.

To truly defeat the "fierce tiger," we need a comprehensive and systematic understanding of it: the tiger's quality, size, and characteristics; we need to assess ourselves: our need, confidence, information, and tools to defeat the "tiger"... This is certainly not something that can be accomplished overnight.

The authors of this book, after a long and arduous journey, have compiled this "master guide" with the aim of "revealing the truth of the problem and providing solutions": What is the essence of fat? Where does it come from? Where does it go? What can we do to accelerate fat breakdown?

The three core principles of scientific weight loss-negative energy balance, low glycemic index, and rich nutrition-are the central ideas of this book and are consistently applied throughout. This book analyzes the various weight loss methods and misconceptions on the market, explains scientific methods for weight loss and weight management, and provides scientific dietary guidance for weight loss in the appendix.

This book strives to be easy to understand and present complex concepts in a simple and accessible way. One of its major benefits is providing a convenient and comprehensive knowledge base for current body fat management professionals and aspiring individuals, while also popularizing and promoting scientific weight loss knowledge to a wider readership. The book includes numerous real-life weight loss case studies to help readers dispel concerns, boost confidence, and even potentially empower them to become "weight loss coaches" after successful weight loss.

Along the way, both good times and bad have been opportunities for growth, and I sincerely thank my partners who have accompanied me on this journey. Due to the wide range of topics covered, shortcomings are inevitable in this book; I earnestly hope that readers will offer their corrections so that I can revise it in future editions.
