A Complete Guide to Leg Liposuction: Thigh and Calf Shaping
Can legs be made thinner? Looking at the body shape of people of East Asian descent, mature women's figures are generally pear-shaped, with small breasts and wide hips—a slender upper body and a heavier lower body. Wide hips and thick thighs give a heavy impression. The thighs are cylindrical, allowing for the accumulation of a lot of fat. When sitting upright, the fat sagging on the lower thighs greatly detracts from one's appearance.
The center of the thigh is the femur, surrounded by strong skeletal muscles. On the upper inner thigh, the femoral artery and vein penetrate deep into the muscles. In the deep muscles of the back of the thigh, there are blood vessels and nerves leading to the calf. Fat distribution in the thighs is often uneven. When fat accumulates on the front, the front of the thigh bulges like an arch. When fat accumulates on the outer and back sides, it makes the thighs appear particularly short, similar to sagging buttocks. When fat accumulates on the inner thighs, the friction between the legs in summer can cause unpleasant discomfort.
Liposuction of the thighs should be tailored to the individual's body shape, taking into account the thickness of the buttocks and calves to choose a suitable shape. Generally, for those with smaller buttocks and calves, the thigh muscles can be subtly revealed, giving a strong and powerful appearance. For those with larger buttocks and thicker calves, some fat needs to be retained to avoid emphasizing the unevenness between the buttocks and calves. However, regardless of the method, the upper back of the thighs should be removed, as long, slender thighs suit any body type.
Similar to buttock liposuction, only a 5mm incision is made in each skin crease to remove most of the fat from the back and inner/outer sides of both thighs. Depending on individual needs, a 5mm incision can be made on each side of the inner groin to remove fat from the front of the thighs. After recovery, the surgical scars will disappear into the skin creases and will not be noticeable.
Can calves be reshaped? A pair of beautiful, slender calves can bring you sunny days, no matter what skirt or shoes you wear. If your calves are thick and short, you might be wondering what kind of trousers to wear in the hot summer. The most distressed are those women who have to wear school uniform skirts, forced to hide their calves under their desks or chairs.
The front of the calf has very little subcutaneous fat, and the muscles in front of the tibia are also thin. Fat accumulation is mainly on the back, in the calf muscle. The back of the calf contains motor and sensory nerves, the common peroneal nerve, which passes through it, and it's not deep. Some people have bowlegs because their calf muscles and fat are more distributed on the outer side.
The fat distribution in the calves also differs from other areas. When performing liposuction on the back and sides, the individual's leg shape must be considered first to determine the amount to be removed. The key to calf liposuction is "leaving some usable fat."
Unlike the stomach, the calves are not soft; they contain not only fat but also muscle and bone. Therefore, to achieve more aesthetically pleasing calves, the surgeon needs exceptional skill and extensive experience. The surgery is performed through a 5mm incision behind the knee or at the ankle. Post-operatively, compression bandages or strong elastic stockings are needed to elevate the calf and promote faster recovery.
